The Yankees’ No. 4 prospect and baseball’s No. 3 overall prospect at third base according to MLB Pipeline, Andujar hit .262 (11-for-42) while slugging .643 with four home runs in 14 Grapefruit League games.

“It’s difficult to send a guy like that down, that you know is going to be a really good player in this league,” manager Aaron Boone said. “He came in here with a need to perform, and he absolutely did on both sides of the ball.”

Andujar’s path to New York appeared to be blocked when the Yankees acquired infielder Brandon Drury in a three-way trade from the D-backs on Feb. 20.

Andujar batted .315/.352/.498 with 36 doubles, 16 homers and 82 RBIs in 125 games between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A in 2017, leading all Yanks prospects in batting average and doubles.

“He played really well defensively. I think everyone got a peek at the kind of hitter we think he’s going to be,” Boone said. “I just had a long talk with him in here to go down there and continue to polish, continue to get better, continue to work. It won’t be too long before he’s up here for good.”

Florial, 20, is rated the Yankees’ No. 2 prospect by MLB Pipeline. The outfielder is seen as one of the more athletic prospects in the game, with above-average tools in his raw power, speed a Marco Estrada Jersey nd arm strength. Speaking frequently with veterans like Brett Gardner, Florial batted .231 and slugged .462 while smacking three triples in 18 spring contests.

“There’s a lot of things I take from those guys,” Florial said. “I learned a lot from those guys, how they handle themselves outside the field. Be Men’s Majestic 6 Marcus Stroman Toronto Blue Jays Authentic Scarlet Canada Day Red Jersey ing next to those guys was a great experience. I think that is going to help me a lot.”

Prior to Sunday’s game, Andujar and right-hander Domingo Acevedo were recognized as the winners of the Lawn Awards, given to the Yankees’ top Minor League Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year. The Yankees have 43 players remaining in camp.

It’s Sevy’s time
Luis Severino has one tune-up remaining before taking the ball on Opening Day, the first such assignment of his career. Severino allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings to the Marlins on Sunday. He walked none and struck out seven, throwing 50 of 70 pitches for strikes.

Boone said that Severino’s next start is slated for Saturday against the Braves in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., which will put the right-hander on regular rest for the March 29 assignment against the Blue Jays in Toronto.

“It’s an honor. We’ve got great guys here — [Masahiro] Tanaka, CC [Sabathia], Sonny Gray, who have been good pitchers for a long time,” Severino said. “I just wanted to come prepared for the season and do Men’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 25 Marco Estrada Toronto Blue Jays Road Gray Jersey Cheap  battle every time they give me the ball. Prospects’ pitch
Chance Adams and Justus Sheffield, two of the Yankees’ top pitching prospects, have been relocated to Minor League camp after posting double-digit ERAs in Grapefruit League action. Pitching coach Larry Rothschild said that the organization remains bullish on both hurlers.

“I think Justus showed the kind of stuff that you’d expect to see,” Rothschild said. “Chance, the arm strength was lagging behind a little bit, which you s Marcus Stroman Jersey ee in Spring Training. Because of that, the results were affected and it didn’t look great, but he’ll catch up arm-wise.”

The Yanks’ No. 3 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Sheffield allowed seven runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings (11.81 ERA) and is likely to open the season at Double-A. No. 6 prospect Adams gave up six  Kevin Pillar Jersey runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 frames (11.57 ERA) and will begin the year at Triple-A.

“He’s healthy, and that’s the important thing,” Rothschild said. “He just needs to get down there and get some repetition, take the pressure off and get back to throwing the ball the way he can.”

Fly away
After tying for the Grapefruit League home run lead last spring, Greg Bird connected for his first of 2018 on Sunday, and he made it count. Bird mashed a Caleb Smith slider beyond the right-field picnic area, a jaw-dropping blast that came as part of a four-run New York first inning.

“I feel like it can kind of click at any time,” said Bird, who recently identified a small mechanical tweak with hitting coach Marcus Thames. “You have a couple of good days or good at-bats back to back. That’s the feeling. I’m trying to repeat that. When I’m right, I feel comfortable off lefties, the same as righties.”

Injury report
Jacoby Ellsbury (right oblique) was sidelined on Sunday with a sore throat and fever, Boone said. Ellsbury could hit under simulated conditions on Monday, with an eye toward playing on Tuesday against the Tigers in Lakeland, Fla.

Up next
The Yankees are under the lights on Monday at George M. Steinbrenner Field, hosting the Rays at 6:35 p.m. ET (listen live on Gameday Audio). David Hale will make his first spring start, with CC Sabathia opting to work in a Minor League game.

Yankees to  Custom Phillies Jersey make push to sign Shohei Ohtani

STAMFORD, Conn. — No one has hurled 100 innings while logging 300 at-bats in a Major League campaign since Babe Ruth, but if it means fitting Shohei Ohtani for pinstripes, general manager Brian Cashman said that he is ready to permit the Japanese standout to both pitch and hit for the Yankees next season.

Cashman broke his weeks-long silence regarding Ohtani on Friday morning, leaving no question about how seriously the Yankees are planning to pursue the right-handed pitcher and left-handed slugger over the next three weeks. With a new posting system in place, Ohtani will have until Dec. 22 to select a team, and the Yankees are planning an all-out push.

“It’s a big stage here and it’s meant to have the best talent to play on it,” Cashman said. “Ohtani represents the next great talent that is available in the world of baseball. This stage is made for players like this, and that’s why we are certainly going to be aggressive in this process.”

:: Shohei Ohtani coverage ::

Ohtani is 42-15 with a 2.52 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP and 624 strikeouts in 543 innings over five seasons with his current team, the Nippon-Ham Fighters. He has a .286/.358/.500 slash line with 48 homers and 166 RBIs in 403 games and 1,035 at-bats over the same time frame.

Cashman said that the Yankees have had eyes on Ohtani since 2012, when he was the Fighters’ first pick in the Nippon Professional Baseball draft. This past August, Cashman and assistant GM Jean Afterman traveled to Japan so they could watch Ohtani play in person, expressing their interest by attending games in both Sapporo and Tokyo.

While Ohtani was impacted by a right ankle injury that required surgery in November, Cashman believes that the 23-year-old phenom that he saw in those contests will fit in perfectly with the up-and-coming core of “Baby Bombers” like Greg Bird, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Luis Severino.

The Yankees’ rotation for 2018 projects to include Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, Sonny Gray and Jordan Montgomery. Free agent CC Sabathia has expressed his interest in returning, though Cashman said on Friday that there have been no developments to report.

Video: Young manager Boone can help Yankees land Ohtani

“It’s a fun bunch that we have,” Cashman said. “I had a chance to personally witness Ohtani pitch, how he interacted with his teammates, the camaraderie that he had with the team. I think he’d be a perfect fit for us. He’s someone that our new manager, our coaching staff and our players would enjoy having a great deal.”

What matters most in race to woo Ohtani?

Hideki Matsui, the MVP of the 2009 World Series, is expected to assist the Yankees as they attempt to convince Ohtani that he belongs in New York. They also could call upon Tanaka, who recently declined to opt out of his contract in part because of his stated affinity for the organization.

Cashman said that the Yankees have been not-so-secretly preparing for Ohtani’s availability for some time, pointing out that the team picked up $1.5 million in international bonus pool money as part of the late July trade with the Athletics that netted Gray.

Earlier this month, the Yankees added another $250,000 in a trade with the Marlins, increasing their available bonus pool to $3.5 million. Only the Rangers ($3.535 million) are able to offer more to Ohtani, who is forgoing a much larger future payday by opting to come to the Majors now.

“I’m certainly hopeful that he sees all the characteristics that the New York Yankees would have to offer,” Cashman said. “He’s a very dynamic, unique player who can play both sides of the ball. He’s an exciting talent. This franchise certainly spent a long time scouting this player.”

Video: Sherman discusses Ohtani’s posting agreement deal

Recently, the Yankees received what Cashman described as a “very detailed, specific” email from the Commissioner’s Office, informing all clubs about the latest developments in the posting system and a potential time frame for its resolution.

Attached to that digital  Custom Phillies Jersey missive was a lengthy questionnaire from Ohtani on behalf of his agent, Nez Balelo of CAA. Cashman said that the Yankees spent a lot of time putting their best foot forward on the homework assignment, involving a number of different departments.

“We took great pains in an effort to educate him and his family and his representation about who the New York Yankees are and what we bring, whether it’s in that clubhouse, the locker room, the facilities, the dynamics of our franchise,” Cashman said.

“We have great ownership here that’s been in place now as a family for over 40 years, with a winning legacy that’s second to none. I think the Steinbrenner family brand equals the Yankees b Men’s Philadelphia Phillies Authentic Personalized Home White Baseball Jersey rand, in that the Yankees equal wi http://www.ecustombaseballgears.com/Custom-Philadelphia-Phillies-Jersey nning and the Steinbrenners also represent winning. He batte Women’s Philadelphia Phillies Authentic Personalized Home White Baseball Jersey d .218 (50-for-229) with two homers and 21 RBIs in 80 games for the Yankees this past season, making 58 starts behind the plate and four at first base.

The son of former big leaguer Kevin Romin Customized Philadelphia Phillies Jersey e and the brother of former Tigers infielder Andrew Romine, who was recently claimed by the Mariners, Austin Romine filled in nicely when Gary Sanchez missed most of April with a right biceps strain, including a career-high five-RBI performance on April 29 vs. Baltimore.

“It means a lot to me, because I can show what I’m worth to the team and help the guys out when I can,” Romine said at the time. “I’m just trying to fill in and do my job. Things are going well right now, but all you want to do as a backup player who gets thrust into that kind of position is do well for the team and show them you belong, and to be a part of this.”

Carlos Belt Custom Phillies Jersey ran could become Yankees manager

When Carlos Beltran interviews with the Yankees for their open manager position, he’ll be aiming to make an unprecedented jump.

Since 1984, when Pete Rose became the last player-manager in the big leagues, no player has ever become an MLB manager the year after his final game in the Majors.

When Carlos Beltran interviews with the Yankees for their open manager position, he’ll be aiming to make an unprecedented jump.

If Beltran were to be hired, he would make his debut as a Major League manager just 149 days after his final game as a player. Since 1984, when Pete Rose became the last player-manager in the big leagues, no player has ever become an MLB manager the year after his final game in the Majors.

Some  Men’s Philadelphia Phillies Authentic Personalized Home White Baseball Jersey have come close to making that jump, though, becoming a big league manager within three seasons of their last MLB games. Here are the six men to do it.

Larry Bowa
Final MLB game: Oct. 6, 1985
Debut as manager: April 6, 1987

Bowa owns the current title for the fastest player to become an MLB manager in this span of time, taking 547 days to go from a short stint with the Mets to end his playing career to managing the Padres.

Bowa’s status as a 16-year MLB veteran likely helped him dive headfirst into coaching. After retiring as a player, Bowa was hired to manage the Triple-A Las Vegas Stars, a Padres affiliate. In Bowa’s only season in Vegas, the Stars went 80-62 and won the Pacific Coast League championship.

That was all it took for Bowa to prove his mettle as a manager, as he took over the Major League team the next season. A coaching career spanning decades would soon follow.

John Wathan
Final MLB game: Oct. 26, 1985 (World Series)
Debut as manager: Aug. 27, 1987

Wathan shared his final season as an MLB player and first year as an MLB manager with Bowa, though the exact dates for both came a little later. Like Beltran, Wathan finished his career with a World Series championship, serving as the backup catcher on the 1985 Royals.

The Royals brought Wathan back the next season as an assistant coach, then made him manager of their Triple-A affiliate in Omaha to begin the 1987 season. Wathan then replaced dismissed manager Billy Gardner in August and stuck around as the Royals’ manager for four seasons, then another one with the Angels.

Lou Piniella
Final MLB game: June 16, 1984
Debut as manager: April 8, 1986

He wasn’t quite a player-manager, but Piniella still got an early start to his coaching career when he became hit Customized Philadelphia Phillies Jersey ting coach for the Yankees while he was still a player.

After retiring as a player in the middle of the 1984 season, Piniella stayed on as the Yankees’ hitting coach and also took on first-base coach duties. With responsibilities like those, he was a natural replacement for Billy Martin in ’86.

Piniella would go on to manage five teams over the next three decades, and he finished 14th on the all-time manager wins list with 1,835.

Jeff Newman
Final MLB game: Sept. 7, 1984
Debut as manager: June 26, 1986

Newman is the only interim coach on this list, but like the others, he was handed coaching responsibilities upon retirement. After ending a nine-year career, Newman was named bullpen coach of the Athletics for the following season.

When A’s manager Jackie Moore was dismissed in the middle of 1986, Newman served as interim manager for 10 games until Tony La Russa was hired as the team’s new manager. Newman went 2-8 as a manager, then bounced around Minor and Major League coaching positions until 2005.

Joe Girardi
Final MLB game: Sept. 28, 2003
Debut as manager: April 3, 2006

The man that Beltran is interviewing to replace also makes this list, as Girardi got his start with the Marlins three years after his final game with the Cardinals.

Girardi returned to New York after retiri Custom Phillies Jersey Cheap ng as a player to work as a commentator for the YES Network, then moved to the team’s coaching staff as bench coach in 2005. He was hired as the Marlins’ manager the next season in ’06, but he was then dismissed even though he won the National League Manager of the Year Award.

After returning to the broadcast booth with YES Network in 2007, Girardi got the call to replace Joe Torre in New York.

Mike Redmond
Final MLB game: July 2, 2010
Debut as manager: April 1, 2013

The most recent player to make the move to manager, Redmond announced his retirement in 2010 and joined the Blue Jays organization as manager of Class A Lansing. After leading Lansing to a 77-60 record, he was promoted to Class A Advanced Dunedin.

Another strong season in Dunedin led to Redmond’s hiring as manager by the Marlins, the franchise with which he broke into the Majors. Redmond lasted two full seasons in Florida before his dismissal in 2015 after a 16-22 start. He is now the bench coach of the Colorado Rockies.

NEW YORK — Aaron Boone has already helped the Yankees advance to one World Series. Now they want him to lead the franchise to its next one.

Boone has been selected as the 33rd manager in franchise history, the Yankees announced Monday, concluding a managerial search that spanned five weeks. Boone’s contract is for three years, with a club option for 2021. An introductory news conference is scheduled for Wednesday at noon ET.

“Words cannot express how humbled I am to wear the pinstripes again as the manager of the Yankees,” said Boone. “I want to thank the Steinbrenner family and [general manager] Brian Cashman for entrusting me with this tremendous honor and responsibility. I believe we are entering into a special time in New York Yankees history, and I am so excited to be a part of it. I can’t wait to get to work — and that work starts now.”

The Yankees also announced that Larry Rothschild will return for his eighth season as New York’s pitching coach. During Rothschild’s tenure, Yankees pitchers have posted the best strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.96) in the American League and third-best in the Majors. Last season, they tallied a franchise-record 1,560 strikeouts and held opponents to an AL-low .228 batting average while setting Major League records in strikeouts per nine innings (10.92) and strikeout rate (29 percent).

Boone, the author of one of the most memorabl http://www.ecustombaseballgears.com/Custom-Philadelphia-Phillies-Jersey e moments in Yankees postseason history, a deciding home run off Tim Wakefield that defeated the Red Sox in Game 7 of the 2003 AL Championship Series, is the 18th Yankees manager to have played for the club and the first without any pre Custom Phillies Jersey vious coaching or managerial experience since Hall of Famer Bill Dickey in 1946.

“I firmly believe that Aaron possesses the attributes needed to follow in the tradition of great Yankees managers,” said managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner. “From all accounts, he is a polished communicator who possesses the ability to cultivate and grow relationships. Aaron has also spent a lifetime immersed in baseball, affording him a unique and intimate understanding of what fosters team success.

“Aaron’s name is already etched into Yankees history, and my family and I are excited to welcome him back to this franchise. This opportunity will allow him to continue to make a positive impact on this organization in distinctly new and meaningful ways.”

Cashman cited “communication and connectivity” as important prerequisites when the Yankees parted ways with Joe Girardi after a decade with him at the helm. Those are challenges that the affable Boone should be able to handle as he begins to familiarize himself with the team’s young roster.

“We also believe Aaron’s interpersonal skills and baseball pedigree will allow him to blend well with the systems we have in place, our baseball operations staff and the 25-man roster,” Cashman said. “On a personal level, I look forward to collaborating with him over the coming years and offering him the support and resources needed to get the most out of our players.”

A popular clubhouse presence during his playing career, Boone has been a television analyst since his retirement in 2009, giving him considerable exposure to the ocean of advanced statistics that have become vitally important in overseeing a big league game.

“I find myself managing games all the time and thinking about strategies and how I would handle different situations,” Boone said. “Certainly, it’s fair to question my experience in actually doing the job, but I would say in a way I’ve been preparing for this job for the last 44 years.”

A corner infielder from La Mesa, Calif., who batted .263 during his 12-year Major Customized Philadelphia Phillies Jersey  League career, Boone played part of the 2003 season with the Yankees. He spent seven seasons with the Reds and also appeared with the Indians, Marlins, Nationals and Astros.

In addition to Boone, the Yankees also interviewed bench coach Rob Thomson, former Indians and Mariners manager Eric Wedge, Giants bench coach Hensley Meulens, Dodgers third-base coach Chris Woodward and recently retired slugger Carlos Beltran.

Thomson, who had been in the Yankees’ organization for 28 seasons, plans to accept a bench coach position with the Phillies, while Beltran has said that he is looking forward to spending time at home with his family.

“Over the past several weeks, our baseball operations department sat down with a number of managerial candidates, all of whom brought a diverse array of baseball knowledge and experience,” Cashman said. “Each interview led to insightful and thoughtful discussions, and I am grateful to the candidates for their preparation, interest and commitment to our extensive interview process.

“When we had the opportunity to speak with Aaron and share concepts and ideas, he was able to showcase a variety of traits that we believe will strongly benefit this franchise as we move forward, including an astute mind for the game and a progressive approach to evolving strategies.”

Video: MLB Tonight on how Boone became the Yankees’ manager

Boone’s grandfather, Ray, father, Bob, and brother, Bret, all played in the Majors, and his father managed the Reds (1995-97) and Royals (2001-03). The Boones are the first family in history to produce three generations of Major League players. Bob and Aaron Boone are just the third duo of father-son managers in history, joining George and Dick Sisler and Bob and Joel Skinner.

“I’ve been going to the ballpark since I was 3 and 4 years old, and in a way, managing the game from a very young age,” Boone said. “My dad was in the big leagues from the time I was born to a senior in high school. Being around great teams, great players, I’ve kind of lived this game.”

Boone remains a fan favorite in New York — and, like Bucky Dent, will  Men’s Philadelphia Phillies Authentic Personalized Home White Baseball Jersey always carry an alternative middle name in Boston — because of that one big swing in the 2003 ALCS. He injured his left knee while playing basketball during the following offseason, setting off a sequence of events that led to the Yankees’ February 2004 trade for Alex Rodriguez.

Boone spoke openly and honestly about th Custom Phillies Jersey Cheap e injury, which voided his contract. That cost him a considerable amount of money at the time, but made an impression upon Cashman and the Yankees. Boone said on Nov. 17 that he believes his brief time with the club will help him prepare for the challenges of managing in the New York spotlight.

“It’s just understanding what it is to be a Yankee, what it is to play here and just understanding the expectations that go with it,” Boone said. “Certainly the expectations now will be ramped up even more after such a successful season and when you look at the roster that we’re going to potentially have out there. I know what I would be signing up for.”

NEW YORK — Carlos Beltran viewed himself as something of an auxiliary coach during his 2 1/2 seasons wearing Yankees pinstripes, sensing a responsibility to pass along his experiences and knowledge in the hopes that they would positively impact the club’s younger players.

As the Yankees seek to improve the “communication and connectivity” between their current roster and the manager’s office, Beltran’s contributions have made him an intriguing candidate. The organization made the recently retired slugger the sixth man to intervie Women’s Philadelphia Phillies Authentic Personalized Home White Baseball Jersey w for the vacancy on Wednesday morning, welcoming the 40-year-old for a lengthy session at Yankee Stadium.

“It’s been a good interview,” Beltran said. “At the beginning, it’s a little bit overwhelming. It’s a lot of information that you have to digest. Most importantly, the part that we’re discussing is an opportunity to be a manager and to manage a team that has so much tradition. It really motivates me to do well.”

Beltran joined a crowded and diverse field of managerial candidates, with Rob Thomson, Eric Wedge, Hensley Meulens, Aaron Boone and Chris Woodward having preceded him. The Yanks do not have a set timetable to name Joe Girardi’s successor, and they may add more interviews to that list.

Beltran could become managerial trailblazer

Having just capped his playing career with his first World Series championship as a member of the Astros, Beltran has no managerial or coaching experience, but he believes that his recent contributions to the Yankees and Astros rosters show that he is ready to assume a position of authority in the Majors.

“This is something that I feel comfortable doing,” Beltran said. “We discussed strategies, discussed how we can get better as a ballclub. There’s no doubt that this organization has done a great job making moves and adding players and getting younger prospects in the Minor Leagues. The future for this organization Men’s Philadelphia Phillies Authentic Personalized Home White Baseball Jersey  looks bright, and I’m excited about that.”

Beltran said that having a veteran bench coach on staff, preferably one who has managed in the big leagues, could offset his inexperience. He described his relationship with Yankees general manager Brian Cashman as “solid” and “professional,” revealing that he expresse http://www.ecustombaseballgears.com/Custom-Philadelphia-Phillies-Jersey d his interest in managing prior to a Yanks-Astros game this past season.

During that on-field conversation, Beltran told Cashman that he would welcome an opportunity to return Customized Philadelphia Phillies Jersey  to the Yankees, for whom he played 341 games from 2014-16.

“Eventually I said to him, ‘If there is anything that I could do for [the Yankees] organization once I retire, I will be available,'” Beltran said. “Honestly, the time that I spent in New York was a great time, and I really enjoyed every moment of it.”

Beltran added that he is comfortable embracing and working with the new wave of analytics, which are viewed as a prerequisite for any modern big league manager. With Houston this year, Beltran occasionally served as a liaison between the team’s analytics department and the players in the clubhouse.

“I personally feel that out of those 20 years, I played naked in a lot of them because I didn’t have all this information,” Beltran said.

After the World Series, Beltran said that he anticipated spending time at home with his family. When Cashman called three days ago inviting Beltran to interview, however, Beltran said that his wife Jessica and their children gave him their blessing to pursue the position.

“This is not something that you can turn away from,” Beltran said. “These types of opportunities, especially one with the Yankees, they don’t come very often. I’m committed for the job, there’s no doubt about that, and excited if I get the opportunity. I would love to manage. I would love to give back to the game.”

Springer stopped by the offices of MLB.com on Wednesday afternoon and appeared on MLB Network and 12:25 with Alexa Datt to discuss a variety of topics. Speaking with Datt, Springer gave a glowing explanation as to why Beltran, who interviewed for the Yankees’ managerial opening on Wednesday, wo Customized Philadelphia Phillies Jersey uld be a great fit for the position.

“He will be probably one of the best of managers http://www.ecustombaseballgears.com/Custom-Philadelphia-Phillies-Jersey  that any player could ever have,” Springer said. “He understands the game, he’s a player’s guy. He’s played the game, obviously, for 20 years. He’s going to be a Hall of Famer, so he’s going to be a heck of a manager someday.”

Tweet from @BryanHoch: Beltran: “I don’t want to be a manager that comes to the ballpark and waits for the game to start. I want to be a proactive manager that interacts with the players and is always bringing something to the table for the players.”

Beltran announced his retirement from baseball on Nov. 13 after winning his first World Series title with the Astros, for whom he played an integral role in mentoring the club’s young talent. Shortly after the season, he told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand that he would be interested in managing at some point down the road. Beltran told Feinsand he wanted to devote more time to his family, but with his wife and three children in New York, the Yankees job would not take him far.

Beltran is one of six candidates the Yankees have interviewed for the position. The others include Blue Jays field coordinator Eric Wedge, Giants bench coach Hensley Meulens, ESPN analyst Aaron Boone, Dodgers infield coach Chris Woodward and Yankees bench coach Rob Thomson.

Tweet from @BryanHoch: Beltran: “I’m 100 percent committed. Being the manager of the NY Yankees, there is a lot of responsibility that comes with that. I’m all for it. As a ballplayer, I got the opportunity to play for a long time. So hopefully I could be a good manager like I was a good player.”

Beltran also fits the mold of general manager Brian Custom Phillies Jersey  Cashman, who signed him in free agency in 2014 in part to help mentor a young New York team.

“At some point in my career, I would love to have the opportunity to manage,” Beltran told Feinsand a few weeks ago. “With the experience that I have in the game of baseball, the times I’ve played, different teams that I’ve played for, I’ve gotten to see different ways to do things in the clubhouse and for the players. How to motivate them, how to impact them in a way where they continue to improve. I would love that opportunity, for sure.”
