Red Sox Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey prepare for emotional Fenway homecoming

The raw emotion that will be at Fenway Park on Friday night when the Red Sox come home will likely be different than any other occasion in the history of the 101-year-old venue.

When the Red Sox found out about the bombs that went off at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, they were in the midst of leaving town for a three-game road trip to Cleveland.

Now they come back with the idea of providing some sort of comfort to the fans and the community which has provided them with so much support over the years.

“I’m glad it was only a three-day series [on the road] so we could get back and be there and be a part of the healing process,” said Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz, who will start Friday’s game against the Royals. “I think everybody’s looking forward to getting back being there tomorrow and trying to make the day as special as we can.”

During their three days in Cleveland, the Red Sox Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey put a symbolic jersey in their dugout that had “BOSTON 617 STRONG” on the back.

There will be a home white jersey to that effect on Friday night, assured Jonny Gomes. And he is hoping it will stay there all season long.

“We’ll get a white one for home and hopefully do it all year,” Gomes said. “This isn’t something that us or the community is going to throw under the rug. This is going to last until this whole generation is no longer with us.”

There will be another touch at Fenway as well in the form of a sign on the Green Monster that has the Red Sox logo “B” with the word Strong under it.Josh Hamilton Jersey.

For his entire time with the Red Sox, vice president Charles Steinberg has always been the maestro behind pregame tributes. This will be different than anything he’s planned in his career, given the profound impact that comes from three people dying and 176 others injured at a public place that is just a mile from Fenway Park.

“If anything, you want to be understated. You want to resonate,” said Steinberg. “It’s not really a day where you launch surprises. It’s a day that you hope is higher on sentiment then pageantry. The point is to appreciate how Fenway Park serves as a community gathering place, and there are so many emotions that are swirling through us that if people can be together and come together, they may find comfort just in being together as one.”Josh Hamilton Jersey Sale.

Steinberg was moved when he watched what the Boston Bruins did on Wednesday night before their game against the Buffalo Sabres. During the national anthem, singer Rene Rancourt turned down his microphone and let the crowd do the bulk of the singing in one of the most stirring tributes in the history of Boston sports.

“Yeah, and we had the same instinct where the fans would sing the anthem and their magnificent performance last night at the Bruins’ game affirms that instinct,” said Steinberg. Josh Hamilton Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Jersey.

The Red Sox, as always, are taking every precaution to make sure their fans are in a safe environment. With that in mind, fans might want to arrive earlier than normal for Friday’s 7:10 p.m. ET game.

“We already have very, very high security standards and we’re working with Major League Baseball security, federal law enforcement, state law enforcement and local law enforcement to ensure the safe environment that everyone deserves,” Steinberg said. “There will be some measures that even take it to a higher level. In fact, people should come a little early because there will be more inspections of bags. The security will be even higher and it’s already very thorough as it is.”

Cheap Josh Hamilton Jersey. In truth, the Red Sox don’t truly know what they will feel with their fans on Friday night. They just look forward to being there for them.

“We all want to be there,” said Sox right-hander Andrew Bailey. “We want to help our own out and do whatever we can to ease some pain and to be there. We’ll have that opportunity coming up. We’re all looking forward to getting home and doing what we can to play a game for a couple of hours and kind of get back some normalcy to the city of Boston. A lot of fans come out to our games. I think they’re looking forward to us being home as well.”

Whatever happens in terms of ceremonial first pitches or the like will be subtle yet poignant.

“I’m sure there will be some kind of low-key tribute to those who have responded first to the situation,” said Red Sox Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey manager John Farrell. “I think based on — or by example of the jersey being hung in the dugout — I think we feel a sense that we can contribute to a communal spirit. Hopefully we can create a little bit of a diversion for those affected directly, but we’re certainly not going to replace what happened. But I think maybe we have a way of helping get back to some sense of normalcy.”

Buchholz has started in the postseason. As recently as 10 days ago, he pitched the Fenway Park season opener. But he knows Friday night is different altogether.

“There’s going to be a lot of emotions going around the clubhouse and with the fans,” Buchholz said. “It’s going to be a special game — definitely one to remember. I’m sort of at a loss for words for it. I’m going to try to keep my emotions under wraps as much as possible. Given the circumstances, it’s going to be a day that’s in pursuit of recovery for everyone who had to face losses.”

The Red Sox will do their best to make sure the atmosphere is one that befits the magnitude of the evening.

“This is not a time to be solely entertained,” Steinberg said. “It’s a time to express your emotions because we’re all filled with emotions and you want healthy, positive vehicles to express your emotions, to express your compassion and to express your sorrow and to express your appreciation that this city does come together as one.”

Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey Dickey’s knuckleball cooperates, but back does not

R.A Dickey’s first few starts in a Blue Jays uniform have been a little bit like his knuckleball, dancing wildly between all of the good spots and all of the bad spots.

The Blue Jays avoided a series loss to the Chicago White Sox with a 3-1 victory at Rogers Centre on Thursday night, many thanks to the 38-year-old finding the perfect release point for his unrelenting signature pitch.

“That’s the first time I have seen one, so for me, it was kind of like someone turned off the lights every couple feet as it was coming to you — it was moving that much,” said Chicago’s Tyler Flowers, who struck out in his first at-bat.

Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey Dickey (2-2) reclaimed his Cy Young Award form from a year ago in the National League, retiring the first 11 batters he faced. But his fourth start with his new club came to an unexpected end after six shutout innings. Cheap Josh Hamilton Jersey.

“I had a knuckleball tonight where I would’ve thrown a complete game tonight with that,” Dickey said.

Dickey did not return for the seventh inning as a precaution with neck and back tightness. Dickey threw just 64 pitches in his six innings of work, striking out seven batters. He allowed two hits and walked one.

“It was a gutsy performance, because it’s been bothering him for a couple of days,” manager John Gibbons said. “Going into tonight, we didn’t know what we were going to get.”

Josh Hamilton Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Jersey.

Gibbons and head trainer George Poulis visited Dickey on the mound after he winced following a strikeout of Dewayne Wise in the sixth, but he appeared to be all right, facing Jeff Keppinger and retiring him on one pitch to end the inning.

The Nashville, Tenn., native has been dealing with lingering stiffness in his upper back since his last start Saturday in Kansas City. He described the location as radiating down from the neck to between his shoulder blade and his spine on his throwing side.

“I was able to get through another inning and a third after I felt it. It got better throughout the course of the week, enough so that I felt comfortable taking the ball [Thursday],” Dickey said.

Though the Blue Jays still couldn’t generate a significant offensive contribution with their bats, it only took a handful of hits and their opponent’s errors to give Dickey his second win of the season.

The Blue Jays went 4-for-27, and the first hit sparked the scoring.

Continuing to hit well against left-handed pitching, Rajai Davis led off the first with a single against Chris Sale (1-2).Josh Hamilton Jersey Sale. He then stole his third and fourth bases of the season, advancing to third and setting up Edwin Encarnacion’s RBI single to give the Blue Jays an early 1-0 lead.

“I think that comes second nature to me. It’s just something I’ve done since I was in Little League,” Davis said of his menacing demeanor on the basepaths. “I feel at home there … how it feels for [a pitcher] — it is to be seen.”Josh Hamilton Jersey.

The run in the first marked only the fifth time in the past 16 games that an offensively-starved Toronto team has been able to open the scoring, and the Blue Jays scored three or less runs for the 10th time in 15 games.

Sale settled down, but hit Emilio Bonifacio with a pitch in the fifth, and didn’t appear able to recover from the bad throw.

With Henry Blanco at the plate, an errant pick-off attempt to first by the lefty allowed Bonifacio to advance to third. The errors didn’t end there for the White Sox. A routine grounder to first by Munenori Kawasaki was fumbled by Adam Dunn, and Bonifacio scored on the play.

“That’s part of their game: Get them on, and that’s what they can do. It puts the pressure on the other team,” Gibbons said. “This turned out to be the type of ballgame where those things can make a big difference.”

Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey Davis doubled to center field for his second hit of the night and scored Kawasaki, giving the Blue Jays an insurance run.

“[Something to take] from this game is start paying closer attention to the runners,” Sale said. “They just had free reign out there it seemed like, especially in the first.”

Cingrani gets first win as Reds rout Marlins Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey

The only big league starting pitcher in the building Thursday night with less experience than prized Marlins rookie Jose Fernandez was coveted Reds lefty Tony Cingrani.Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey .

Fernandez, a 20-year-old who pitched in Class A last season, had 98-mph heat and only two Major League starts under his belt. That was two more starts than Cingrani, 23, could boast.

But it was Cingrani’s five innings and another heaping of generous run support that led to an 11-1 Reds win over the Marlins at Great American Ball Park.

“It could have been a little better overall, but I’m happy with it,” said Cingrani, who gave up one run and five hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. He was the first Reds lefty to win his first Major League start since Tom Browning in 1984.

Cincinnati nabbed its fourth straight victory and for the second night in a row, it scored 11 runs, following the 11-2 thumping given to the Phillies on Wednesday.Josh Hamilton Jersey.

While Cingrani doesn’t have Fernandez’s elite velocity, the fastball was his bread and butter in college and during his fast rise up the Minor Leagues. He used it often during his first big league start.

“He’s got good stuff. He’s aggressive with his fastball. I thought he looked good,” Marlins manager Mike Redmond said.

Of the 102 pitches Cingrani threw, 83 were fastballs. In the first inning, 20 of his 21 pitches were fastballs. Overall, they were generally in the 89-93-mph range. Josh Hamilton Jersey Sale.

“It seems like they never get a good swing on it,” Reds shortstop Zack Cozart said. “They know it’s coming and they can’t really do anything with it. When you have a good fastball, you’re going to be successful. He pitched well.”

Miami rallied quick in the first inning with a leadoff single by Chris Coghlan and Giancarlo Stanton’s one-out single. Cingrani escaped with a strikeout of Placido Polanco and a Greg Dobbs fielder’s choice.

“I told him ‘this first inning is probably going to be the hardest one.’ He got out of it and I was happy for him,” said Reds third baseman Todd Frazier, who hit a 421-foot two-run homer to center field in the sixth.

The only blemish of Cingrani’s outing came in the fourth inning. A leadoff homer came from a 3-2 fastball to Justin Ruggiano and made it a 1-1 game.

Against Fernandez, the Reds Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey poured on the offense in the bottom of fourth while eight men batted. With runners on first and second and no outs, Xavier Paul sharply lined an RBI single to right field and went to second base on Stanton’s error in right field. A Devin Mesoraco sacrifice fly to center field scored Frazier, and Shin-Soo Choo’s two-out double to left field added another run. Cozart’s RBI single scored Choo to make it a 5-1 game.

“You can’t ask for anything more. They got that four-spot after I gave up one in the fourth,” said Cingrani, who had three big league relief appearances as a September callup last season. He was the first lefty to start for Cincinnati after a stretch of 180 straight games with righties.

The offense added four more runs in the fifth against reliever John Maine and gave Cingrani room to breathe as he ran up a high pitch count in the early going.Josh Hamilton Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Jersey.

“He was probably overthrowing just a little bit because he was throwing high, and that’s usually not him,” Reds manager Dusty Baker said. “That’s to be expected in his first start. He gave us what we needed. We gave him what he needed, which was a cushion I was hoping for.”

In the top of the fifth as he approached the 100-pitch plateau, the only question was whether Cingrani could stay in the game to qualify for the win. He issued a two-out walk to Polanco, which brought out pitching coach Bryan Price.

Cingrani’s final pitch, coincidentally, wasn’t a fastball. He struck out Dobbs with a 78-mph slider into the dirt. It avoided a very tough choice for Baker.

“They had the dangerous Ruggiano coming up there,” Baker said. “He already hit one in the seats and could have hit another to make it 5-3. Then we’ve got a real ballgame. I’m just glad he got Dobbs out and then we didn’t have to make the decision. You always want the kid to get the win but you can’t do it to sacrifice the team win.”Cheap Josh Hamilton Jersey.

Cingrani, who was called up to replace injured ace Johnny Cueto in the rotation, kept alive a string of strong starting pitching. During the four-game win streak, Reds starters have allowed only three runs in their last 28 innings.

“I wasn’t throwing too many strikes. I was getting 3-2 counts on everybody,” Cingrani said. “First-pitch strikes and getting ahead of them is what I have to do the next time.”

Hot Rox Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey fight off Coors’ chill for sixth straight

The snow stopped, and the sun finally appeared. But it was 28 degrees when Jon Garland took the mound Thursday for the Rockies, tying the franchise record for the lowest temperature to start a home game.

The cold didn’t bother Garland, who became the first Rockies Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey starter to pitch seven innings this season as Colorado beat the Mets, 11-3, for its sixth straight victory. The Rockies, who have started a season 6-0 at home for the first time in franchise history, blew the game open by scoring six runs with two outs in the seventh. The Rockies reached season-highs in runs and hits (17), and while sweeping three games from the Mets, the Rockies outscored them 28-14. Josh Hamilton Jersey Sale.

“The thing I like about this lineup is we’ve scored a lot of runs late,” Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. “The game is close, and then it seems like seventh, eighth or ninth, we’ve been putting crooked numbers up there and putting some games away. It’s just tough for a pitcher to make quality pitches throughout the lineup. If they don’t, there’s a possibility the ball will end up in the seats.”Josh Hamilton Jersey.

The teams were snowed out Monday, played a split doubleheader Tuesday — which the Rockies swept — and were snowed out again Wednesday before Garland stifled the Mets. He made it through seven innings on just 83 pitches, including 54 strikes, and allowed two runs.

“I was surprised at how fast my hand got cold, because it didn’t seem that cold there with the sun,” Garland said. “Besides that, body felt fine.”

Garland, who was signed during the final week of Spring Training after not making the Mariners’ rotation and getting his release from Seattle, has pitched at least six innings in his three starts, each of which the Rockies have won. He beat San Diego in his first two starts before facing the Mets, improving his record to 2-0 and lowering his ERA to 3.32 by throwing a lot of offspeed stuff.

Josh Hamilton Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Jersey.

“I think the key to the curveball was early on, it was being called for a strike,” Garland said. “So from that point, they couldn’t just take it, had to respect it. I think I threw enough fastballs in there for strikes to keep them off balance.”

Josh Rutledge homered in the fourth for the Rockies, who also got homers in the eighth from Troy Tulowitzki and Dexter Fowler. Carlos Gonzalez, who went 3-for-5 with a double, scored twice and drove in a run in the first, as did Tulowitzki in the sixth. The Rockies scored their first three runs off Mets starter Jon Niese, who worked six innings.

“A place like this, a lineup like that, hold them to three runs, I thought Jon threw the ball very good,” Mets manager Terry Collins said. “Due to weather, he didn’t have a good feel for his curveball, but he made pitches with it, used his changeup effectively. I thought he pitched very well.”

In the Rockies’ six-run seventh, Wilin Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey Rosario drove in the first two with a soft single to right-center off Scott Atchison, and Todd Helton followed with a two-run double off the scoreboard in right field. The double — the 573rd of Helton’s career, moving him past Ivan Rodriguez into 20th place all-time — came with two outs to increase the Rockies’ lead to 5-2.

The rally continued with RBI singles from Chris Nelson and pinch-hitter Reid Brignac.

The Rockies are 11-4 and have scored five or more runs in 11 games, winning 10 of them. This was also the eighth time they have had 10 or more hits in a game — they are 7-1 in those games. They are batting .297 with 25 home runs.

For his part, Garland is grateful he can be the beneficiary of the Rockies’ lineup instead of facing it.  Cheap Josh Hamilton Jersey.

“You can see the trust they have in the guy behind them,” Garland said, “because there’s really [not anyone] pressing to get a hit or get on, because there’s an understanding that guy behind you is just as hot or hotter and he’s going to do it. And when that happens, you just get more relaxed, get a little more free and easy and that athleticism comes through and you tend to get more hits. And I think that’s what’s happened so far early on.”

Lester sharp as Sox Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey sweep Tribe, win sixth straight

Fifteen games into the season, the Red Sox are looking like a well-oiled engine that is getting it done in all facets of the game.

All of it was on display in Thursday night’s 6-3 win over the Indians that completed a three-game sweep and pushed the team’s winning streak to six games.

Jon Lester dazzled for the fourth straight start, firing seven strong innings for the win.Cheap Josh Hamilton Jersey.

Timely hitting was present throughout the night, and from various spots in the lineup.

Aggressive and heads-up baserunning led directly to at least a couple of runs.

Boston heads back to Fenway with an 11-4 record — the best start the club has had since 2006.

“We’re trying to play the game right, take the extra base and do the little things to help us win the ballgame,” said Dustin Pedroia. “We’ve been doing that lately, we’ve got to continue to do that.”

The Sox will get David Ortiz back on Friday night against the Royals, as he makes his season debut after an eight-month battle back from problems with his right Achilles heel.Josh Hamilton Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Jersey.

And this will also be the first game at Fenway Park since Monday’s tragedy at the Boston Marathon, when multiple bombs killed three people and injured 176 others.

“It’s going to be great, go back there and get in front of those fans,” said Lester. “It goes back to the same things we talked about. Maybe for a couple of hours, they can get back to just being Boston, watching a baseball game and having a good time and not thinking about all the other things. Hopefully we’re able to do that and at the same time play good baseball on top of that.”

The Sox Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey have been doing a lot of that of late, thanks to performances like this one from Lester. The lefty, who pitched against former manager Terry Francona for the first time, is 3-0 with a 1.73 ERA.

“Lester has a lot of ways to attack hitters,” said Francona. “Whether it’s depth on his two-seamer or life on the fastball, and then he’s got that cutter. And he threw an occasional breaking ball. He has a lot of ways of opening up the plate.”

For Francona, this was not the reunion matchup he was looking for. The Indians come to Fenway from May 23-26.

“I didn’t enjoy the series much,” Francona said. “But I’ll never get tired of seeing people I care about.”

The Red Sox jumped out in front yet again, as Mike Napoli led off the second with a triple to right and Daniel Nava got him home with an RBI single. It was the seventh career triple for Napoli.

“I never think triple — ever,” said Napoli. Josh Hamilton Jersey Sale

The Indians got a run right back in the bottom of the second. Mark Reynolds started it with a grounder down the third-base line that took a bad hop on Pedro Ciriaco for a ground-rule double. Ryan Raburn drilled a fly ball to deep right and Reynolds moved to third. Mike Aviles tied it up with a fielder’s choice grounder.

But when Jarrod Saltalamacchia put a charge into a 3-2 fastball from Indians starter Zach McAllister with two outs in the fourth, the game was no longer tied. Saltalamacchia capped his seven-pitch at-bat by walloping the ball over the wall in right for a solo shot, his third homer of the season.

“Well, when he gets fastballs on the plate he can do a lot of damage and he took some borderline curveballs that from the side view were good pitchers’ pitches,” Farrell said. “He was able to get back in the count and when he gets a fastball around the plate, we know what he’s very well capable of.”

This was a night when the Boston bats continued to chip away. In the fifth, Jacoby Ellsbury doubled and Shane Victorino singled, setting up Pedroia, who executed a hit-and-run perfectly for an RBI single to right. A fielder’s choice RBI by Drew Stubbs in the bottom of the fifth made it a 3-2 game.Josh Hamilton Jersey.

Boston created some breathing room in the seventh. Ellsbury led off with a single. Victorino caught a break, as second baseman Cord Phelps bobbled his grounder for an error. When Pedroia belted one to deep right, narrowly missing his first homer of the season, Ellsbury tagged and moved to third. That gave Napoli — who has been an RBI machine for Boston — the chance to drive in Ellsbury with an RBI single to right.

Not only were the Red Sox scoring, but they were hustling. Nava delivered a sac fly to center, and when the throw came home, Napoli tagged and made it to second.

“We’re going to be aggressive on the bases,” Napoli said. “We’re not going to be crazy and try to run into outs, but in that situation, Stubbs has a really good arm, especially when he’s coming forward and is under the ball. That run on third was a key run, so I was mainly try to make him cut it so we’d get that three-run lead. I thought he was going to let it go and I’d be on second, but fortunately he bobbled it at second and we got another big run out of it.”

That paid dividends when pinch-hitter Mike Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey Carp came off the bench and banged an RBI single to right, scoring Napoli.

“It’s fun to watch,” Lester said. “Guys take the extra base. They’re aggressive, but also under control. The at-bats guys guys are putting together just fouling off pitches and grinding them out, it’s been fun. And then seeing our bullpen come in and doing what they’ve been doing lately. You can’t put your finger on one thing. Everybody’s doing what they need to do and we’re playing good baseball right now.”

Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey Braves power up with four homers vs. Bucs

Manager Fredi Gonzalez knew he was rolling the dice by sending his only remaining catcher off the bench to pinch-hit in the eighth inning, but the potential negative consequences were trumped by his desire to give Evan Gattis a chance to add to his growing legend.
Gonzalez’s decision proved to be genius, as the only swing Gattis took on Thursday night resulted in a two-run homer that gave the Braves a lead they’d preserve in a 6-4 win over the Pirates.
“He just keeps getting better,” B.J. Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey Upton said. “Not a lot of young guys are able to go out, play every day and produce the way he’s been able to produce. This was his first off-day in a while, and to come off the bench and to hit a pinch-hit home run like he did today says a lot. A lot of guys don’t know how to handle that situation, especially in crunch time.”
Showing no signs that his only previous pinch-hit appearance came while playing for Rookie-level Danville three years ago, Gattis looked at two sinkers out of the strike zone from right-handed reliever Jared Hughes, then drilled the third over the left-field wall.
“I felt it was a good matchup against him and what he has,” Gattis said. “That’s what I was looking for, what he was throwing. I’m glad I got to see two pitches before that for balls. That helps. I was fortunate and lucky. I’m glad I got it on the barrel enough.”
Gattis homered in his first career at-bat and now has a game-winning home run in the only pinch-hit appearance of his so-far magical big league career. The 26-year-old rookie catcher has homered five times through his first 43 career at-bats and added to the wonder of a story that includes a stint as a janitor during a four-year absence from baseball.

Josh Hamilton Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Jersey.

“That’s a pretty cool story, if you dig into it a little bit,” Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. “Unfortunately, I didn’t dig the swing too much.”
One day after bidding adieu to a 10-game winning streak, the Braves belted four home runs, accounting for all of their offense, and overcame Julio Teheran’s inability to preserve any of the three leads he was handed through his shaky five-inning effort.
B.J. Upton hit the third pitch of the game by Pirates starter Jeff Locke over the left-field wall for his ninth career leadoff home run. Locke also surrendered a two-run homer in the third to Chris Johnson, who is batting .438, and a fifth-inning solo shot to Justin Upton, who now has a Major League-leading nine homers through his first 58 at-bats with the Braves.

Justin Upton Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey  has experienced an incredible start to his first season playing alongside his older brother. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, he is the first Braves player to hit nine home runs in the first 15 games of a season.
“To be able to be here and see it live, it’s a pretty cool thing to watch,” said B.J., who signed a five-year contract with the Braves in November. “But he’s still little brother, so I’m not going to give him too much credit.”
Josh Hamilton Jersey Sale. Gattis and Upton have combined for 14 of the 29 home runs the Braves have totaled while winning 13 of their first 15 games this year.
This powerful surge enabled the Braves to overcome the struggles of Teheran, who looked more like the fastball pitcher that he was when he posted a 5.08 ERA with Triple-A Gwinnett last year. The 22-year-old right-hander issued a four-pitch walk that helped the Pirates tie the score in the first inning and later surrendered two home runs, including Pedro Alvarez’s fourth-inning shot, which traveled an estimated 448 feet and hit high off the green wall beyond the center-field fence.Josh Hamilton Jersey.
Teheran, who has allowed at least four earned runs in each of his first three starts, allowed the Pirates to tie the score in the fifth on doubles by Travis Snider and Garrett Jones. But the young hurler ended his seventh career start by escaping a bases-loaded jam in the fifth.

“Obviously, as a competitor, he would like things to be a little bit different,” B.J. Upton said. “But at the same time, he’s keeping us in ballgames, and that’s all we can ask.”
After Anthony Varvaro kept the Pirates scoreless for two innings, Andrelton Simmons opened the decisive eighth by drawing a walk and advancing to second on Gerald Laird’s sacrifice bunt.

This prompted Gonzalez to call Ramiro Pena back from the on-deck circle and insert Gattis with the understanding that if his team did not take a lead and Laird was forced to exit later, utility infielder Blake DeWitt — who has never served as a catcher at the professional level — would have to crouch behind the dish.

But Gattis took care of things with one mighty swing.

“That same situation in the fifth or sixth, you might not do it,” Gonzalez said. “But in that situation in the eighth, with the game like it was, you take a shot at it.”Cheap Josh Hamilton Jersey.

Beltran’s Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey homer barely holds up for Cardinals

Beleaguered, a word that has fairly described a Cardinals bullpen without Jason Motte, vastly understated their situation in the bottom of the ninth Thursday night.

Consecutive hits to lead off the ninth by Ben Revere Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey and Erik Kratz put the Cards, leading by a run on Carlos Beltran’s opposite-field home run in the eighth, facing first and third with nobody out. Presumably, this was no place you would want to be with a bullpen that has yielded a .296 batting average by opponents this season. Yet when manager Mike Matheny went to the mound to discuss what to do next, crying was not an option. He says he knew the game was in the right hands.

“The crowd is going crazy, but you could sense the pulse there,” said Matheny after the Cardinals held on for a 4-3 victory. “Edward [Mujica] was ready to make pitches, and he and [Yadier Molina] were on the same page. That’s a nice place to be when the heat gets turned up.”

Josh Hamilton Jersey Sale. Matheny felt so good about it, he pulled his infield up rather than playing for the double play that could keep his team alive into the 10th.

“I’m pretty aggressive by nature,” he said. “I wanted to go for the win.

“I understand the road-home [strategy] and people take different viewpoints in that regard. But I thought we could have a couple things go our way and we could pull out a win, and it happened to work out that way.”

Pinch-hitter Kevin Frandsen hit the ball right at shortstop Pete Kozma. Revere didn’t break, even after Kozma slightly bobbled it. Frandsen was out at first, leaving second and third with one out for Jimmy Rollins.Josh Hamilton Jersey.

Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright, watching on television in the clubhouse, said he was not afraid to watch and turned out to be rather glad he did. Mujica struck out Rollins with what Mujica insists is a change and everybody else thinks is a splitter. Whatever you want to call it, the same pitch got Freddy Galvis to ground out to seal the victory.

“His change was just dropping off the table; the one to Rollins looked like a Nintendo pitch,” said Wainwright. “First and third, then second and third, that’s a tough spot and he manned up.”

Josh Hamilton Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Jersey.

To a man, the Cardinals thought their victory might have been the best of their young season.

“We did a lot of the little things right and that’s why you end up winning a game like that,” said Matheny. “This is the team we say we want to be, but you have to prove it.”

Wainwright’s stretch of shutout innings ended at 18, but the streak without a walk is now at 29 frames. He had finished his final inning of work when Beltran’s drive, the quintessential Citizens Bank Park homer, barely made it over the railing.

“I stayed away and I didn’t show in or think in,” said Phillies reliever Mike Adams, who gave it up. “I made the mistake of staying out there too long and made the mistake that he could get a good pass on it. He took a pretty good swing and it went out.

“I thought it was over the left fielder, didn’t think it would be over the wall,” said Beltran Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey .

He was no more sure that a Rollins liner — hit with two outs just after Kratz’s single had tied the game, 3-3, in the seventh — was going to wind up in the glove Beltran extended well above his head.

“You throw your glove out, it happens so fast,” said Beltran.

Almost as fast as Wainwright’s heart was beating. Cheap Josh Hamilton Jersey.

“It looked like his arm extended a couple feet longer than it actually is,” said the starter. “Then he hit the home run.

“He almost got more than a hug from me. I gave him a big high five as well.”

The Cardinals won this one by the inch. Yadier Molina lined a two-run double down the right-field line in the fourth that landed close enough to the foul line to make replays of umpire Alan Porter’s call inconclusive. But they also executed, not just during the high-wire act in the ninth, but in getting David Freese, who had doubled to start the seventh after the Phillies had scored twice to tie the game in the sixth, around on Jon Jay’s bunt and Kozma’s sacrifice fly.

The Phillies came back again on a tiring Wainwright, and the Cardinals needed a hero. Beltran stepped up, as did Mujica, who inherited two runners from Trevor Rosenthal in the bottom of the eighth and struck out pinch-hitter Laynce Nix.

“One of the better team wins I have been a part of,” said Wainwright. “It’s the close ones that bring a squad together.”

Cody Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey clutch: Ross lifts D-backs in 12th

When the D-backs signed Cody Ross as a free agent during the offseason, one of the reasons they cited was his ability to deliver in the clutch.

On Thursday night at Yankee Stadium, Ross Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey did just that as his RBI single started a four-run 12th-inning rally as the D-backs avoided a sweep and beat the Yankees, 6-2.

“I don’t know. I guess I concentrate a little bit more, focus a little bit more when the game is on the line,” Ross said. “I was telling somebody earlier that maybe I should act like it’s the ninth inning in the first inning and have that approach, but it’s a feel thing. You start off in the game trying to get a feel for things, see some pitches and then once the game is on the line, you bear down a little bit more and focus.”

It didn’t seem like the game would be on the line in the 12th, because it looked like the D-backs would have this thing wrapped up in nine.

Left-hander Patrick Corbin, who grew up in central New York rooting for the Yankees, tossed a masterful seven innings.

The 23-year-old allowed just a pair of hits and walked three while striking out seven much to the delight of a large contingent of friends and family, who were in the stands.

“It’s a day I’ll never forget,” Corbin said. “Just to be here with my family, all my friends here getting to see me play, it was awesome. To have the chance to pitch here is just amazing. I felt good and had really good fastball command and my slider today was good.”Josh Hamilton Jersey.

Didi Gregorius, who was acquired from the Reds in a three-team deal last winter and was activated from the disabled list Tuesday, gave Corbin an early lead when he led off the third inning with a home run to right on the first pitch he saw from Phil Hughes. It was Gregorius’ first at-bat in a D-backs uniform.

Cheap Josh Hamilton Jersey.Gregorius became the seventh player to homer in his first at-bat with the D-backs, joining Alex Cabrera, Bobby Estalella, Jose Cruz Jr., Felipe Lopez, Gerardo Parra and John Hester. He is the first of the group to do it on the first pitch.

“It’s been a dream to play here,” the 23-year-old said. “It’s every kid’s dream to be able to play in this stadium. I got a chance and I hit a home run, too. It was really exciting for me.”

Gregorius flashed a big smile as he rounded third and he was asked what was going through his mind.

“‘I can’t believe I just hit a home run,'” he thought. “I was really happy rounding the bases. At first, I was trying not to smile, but then I smiled anyway.”

Arizona increased its lead to 2-0 when Martin Prado led off the sixth with a home run.Josh Hamilton Jersey Sale.

The Yankees cut the lead in half in the sixth when Robinson Cano hit an 0-1 pitch into the home bullpen in right-center.

The D-backs Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey turned things over to closer J.J. Putz in the ninth, and after retiring the first hitter of the inning, Putz hung a split-finger fastball to Francisco Cervelli, who hit it into the seats in left to tie the game.

“It was a split that didn’t do anything, so basically a BP fastball,” Putz said. “I had the right idea, right thought process. I wanted to bounce it. It just didn’t go down.”

Said Cervelli, “The homer right now doesn’t mean anything, because we lost the game. I don’t care if I hit three homers and we lost. I’m not happy.”

Gerardo Parra started the winning rally with a double to lead off the 12th against David Phelps. Parra came to the plate with just six hits in his previous 41 at-bats.

After the D-backs loaded the bases, Ross lined a single to left to score Parra, and Eric Chavez followed with a three-run double to right-center to pad the lead.Josh Hamilton Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Jersey.

“[Manager Kirk Gibson] has always told us to play hard no matter what,” said reliever Heath Bell, who worked a scoreless 11th. “Unfortunately, in the first two games, we kind of let it slip by us, but we didn’t give up. Even though they tied the game, we just kept grinding. That’s what we do. We go out there and play hard every single out we have. You could see it. We just didn’t give up.”

Wieters’ walk-off grand slam lifts O’s in 10th Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey

After rounding third and heading toward a mob of teammates waiting for him at home plate, Orioles catcher Matt Wieters gleefully flicked off his helmet and jumped right into the celebration.

Wieters is not the type of player to show much emotion, but even he could not hide his excitement after hitting a walk-off grand slam in the 10th to lead Baltimore to a 10-6 victory over Tampa Bay on Thursday night.Josh Hamilton Jersey.

The victory clinched the second series win over the Rays this season. The teams combined for seven home runs. It was the first walk-off grand slam by the Orioles since Harold Baines in 1999.

“I felt it was going to go, but more importantly, I knew it was going to get the run, whether or not it went out,” Wieters said. “I knew the game was going to be over. That’s a good feeling, and now we’ll move forward to tomorrow.”

The Orioles Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey  were also able to overcome a shaky outing by starter Miguel Gonzalez, who allowed two of his three home runs in the first inning. Gonzalez did not get a decision after allowing four earned runs on eight hits with one strikeout and two walks over 5 2/3 innings.

Tampa Bay starter David Price also had an unsteady outing. He allowed five runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and no walks through six-plus innings.

The Orioles trailed, 5-4, in the seventh when J.J. Hardy led off with a double that ended Price’s night. Jake McGee entered and immediately gave up a two-run homer to Steve Pearce, who snapped out of an 0-for-15 skid to start the season.

“I’ve been swinging good, having good at-bats, just wasn’t able to find a hole,” Pearce said. “I just told him that to try and psych us both up, and fortunately I was able to get something going for myself and for the team.”

Prior to that home run, the Orioles’ designated hitters were 3-for-49 with one homer and one RBI.

The Rays, however, responded in the eighth, tying the game on a homer by James Loney off Darren O’Day. It was the first home run O’Day had allowed in eight appearances. Josh Hamilton Jersey Sale.

Orioles reliever Jim Johnson pitched a scoreless ninth, helped by Wieters’ throwing out Desmond Jennings trying to steal second with one out. Wieters has now thrown out seven of nine runners attempting to steal this season.

The Orioles broke the deadlock in the 10th, when Nick Markakis led off with a single and Manny Machado reached on a bunt up the first-base line. Adam Jones hit another long single to load the bases. The runners were all moving on Jones’ hit, and Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon argued Jones did not re-touch second base on the way back to first.

The umpires overruled Maddon, and that set up Wieters’ heroics off right-handed reliever Brandon Gomes.

“I just have to do my job there,” Gomes said. “I haven’t seen the pitch to Jones, but I’m assuming that slider was left up. Then I tried to go back-door slider to Wieters, and it caught way too much of the plate. So, you’re going to get hurt when you’re facing the middle of that lineup.”

Asked if Gomes’ approach would have been different had Jones been ruled out, opening up first base, Gomes said: “It could have. But I’m not going to play that game. I just didn’t execute the pitches I needed to; that’s really all it is.”

After having just five home runs on the season entering the series, Tampa Bay had nine round-trippers against the Orioles over the three days.

“I just wanted to put it down somewhere, get Nicky over,” Machado said. “I got a hit out of it. It was a perfect bunt. I couldn’t have placed it better. I’ve been working on bunting, not really sacrificing. It’s just something you can’t practice. It’s in the heat of the moment. Adrenaline pumping. You’ve just got to lay it down there.”

For the second time in the three-game series, Jennings led off the game with a home run to left center. It was the sixth leadoff homer of his career. Two batters later, Evan Longoria homered to almost exactly the same spot for a 2-0 lead.Josh Hamilton Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Jersey.

Orioles starters allowed first-inning home runs in all three games of the series after not having allowed a first-inning homer in their opening 12 games. Gonzalez struggled in the second as well, loading the bases on singles by Loney and Jose Molina before hitting Yunel Escobar. A sacrifice fly by Jennings increased the Rays’ lead to 3-0.

The Orioles Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey tied the game in the second when Wieters opened with a double and scored on a single by Chris Davis. Nolan Reimold then hit a two-run homer with two outs that just cleared the deepest part of the center-field wall.

Tampa Bay regained the lead in the third after a throwing error by Hardy botched a double play that would have ended the inning. The Orioles again tied the game in the fifth on a two-out double by Machado and could have taken the lead, but Markakis hesitated rounding third and was tagged out in a rundown.

The Rays made them pay an inning later as Molina provided a 5-4 lead with his first home run this season. Singles by Escobar and Jennings then ended Gonzalez’s night.

Gonzalez was the only Orioles starter to pitch more than five innings in the series. Jake Arrieta got the win Wednesday night, allowing one run on 112 pitches in five innings, while Chris Tillman took the loss Thursday after giving up four runs in five innings.

“It was a good game for us.” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. “To beat them in the series at home, and we knew it was going to be a really tough challenge with Price out there. It was a good win, to be down, 3-0, there with Price and being able to figure out a way. There was a lot of frustration funneled in the right direction after we got down. I’d like for them to get a good night’s sleep and feel good about themselves, and we’ve got a challenge getting ready for the Dodgers.”Cheap Josh Hamilton Jersey.

Desmond Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey off to strong start at plate

Ian Desmond Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey established himself as one of the best shortstops in baseball in 2012, batting .292 with 25 homers and an .845 OPS that ranked first among qualifying Major League shortstops, and he hasn’t shown any signs of letting up at the plate in the early going this year.

Entering Tuesday night’s game, Desmond was batting .320 with two homers and six doubles, tied for the Major League lead. After a 4-for-23 start, Desmond hit .444 (12-for-27) over his next seven games.

Nine of Desmond’s 16 hits on the year have gone for extra bases, including the two doubles he raked in Monday night’s four-hit performance in Washington’s 10-3 win against Miami.

“I felt good. Obviously it’s nice to have success, especially after that series we just came from,” Desmond said Monday night, referring to the weekend series in which the Braves swept the Nationals.Cheap Josh Hamilton Jersey.

“Like I said the other day, it’s still so early. We obviously know that we have a good offensive team here. We have a great pitching staff. It’s just a matter of being more consistent, and that comes with time. You can’t expect to be great right off the bat. It takes time to sculpt and build a team. Obviously we’ve got some new additions, so we’ve all got to figure each other out, and it’s going to take some time. But [Monday] was a great step in the right direction.”

Nationals manager Davey Johnson held first baseman Adam LaRoche out of the starting lineup Monday in order to get Tyler Moore some playing time. Bryce Harper and Denard Span were out of Tuesday’s lineup, but not so that Johnson could get his bench players on the field.

Johnson said Harper and Span were both “very sick” with a stomach flu Monday night, adding that they’ve been dehydrated and unable to keep any food down. So Johnson had to start Roger Bernadina in center field, stick Moore in left and hope the Nationals could ride out Tuesday night’s game against the Marlins with a two-man bench, Chad Tracy and Jhonatan Solano.

Josh Hamilton Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Jersey.

Harper and Span were scheduled to see a doctor at 6 p.m. ET at Marlins Park, but Johnson said they were “definitely not available to go.” Harper showed up to Marlins Park late Tuesday afternoon, and Span was sent back to the hotel to rest after reporting to the field earlier this afternoon.

“I saw Span here earlier, and he looked like he needed to go back to bed,” Johnson said. “Hopefully they’ll have a quick recovery. … I know it’s been going around D.C., same thing. I hope it’s just a 24-hour flu, but with some guys, it hangs on for two or three days.”

Washington was already playing a man short, as second baseman Danny Espinosa is still getting treatment on his bruised right forearm. The swelling and bruising has mostly moved from his wrist further up his forearm, and he hoped to take a few swings off a tee at some point Tuesday. But he still wasn’t ready to return to the field Tuesday.Josh Hamilton Jersey Sale.

Espinosa repeated what he said Monday, that he hopes to be back in the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale at Marlins Park. If not, he said, he will be ready for Friday night’s series opener in New York.

“He was in there getting treatment, trying to keep the swelling down in his right wrist or forearm, and then he was trying to get a lot of the blood out of there, because it bled quite a bit,” Johnson said. “I know he was shooting, trying to be ready to play tomorrow. But I think more likely, with the day off, maybe Friday.”

It’s worth noting that starting pitchers Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmermann took batting practice Tuesday afternoon, meaning they could be called upon to pinch-hit if the situation arises. But the Nationals’ short bench raised another question: Who’s going to man the outfield if something happens to Moore, Bernadina or Jayson Werth?

Suffice it to say Johnson sparked quite a debate among the relievers in the clubhouse a few hours before the game.

“It was just a conversation that didn’t bear a lot of fruit,” the manager said.Josh Hamilton Jersey.

Pitching coach Steve McCatty’s reacted with pride, but also tempered excitement, to Zimmermann’s first nine-inning complete game Monday night, saying afterward, “I’m happy for him, but I don’t put a whole lot of stock in it.” Wonder why? McCatty threw 45 complete games in 161 career starts, and he surpassed the nine-inning mark five times in his career, including a 14-inning loss to the Mariners on Aug. 10, 1980.

In other words: Pitching a complete game was more or less just part of the job description back in McCatty’s day.

“Well, yeah,” McCatty Josh Hamilton Angels Jersey said, “and I want them to learn that. It’s nice. It’s always fun to get a complete game.

With Span and Harper out Tuesday night, Werth returned to the leadoff spot he occupied down the stretch last year, and Ryan Zimmerman moved back up to the third spot in the batting order.

Zimmerman’s 19 career home runs against the Marlins, the latest of which came Monday night, are the most he has hit against any club. He’s gone deep 16 times against Atlanta, which ranks second.
